Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to Allure Stradbroke Resort on North Stradbroke Island.

We’ve compiled a list of frequently asked questions for your convenience:

🧳Your Stay & Supplies

What does “Self-Contained” mean? Our units are designed for independent living. This means you have your own kitchen/kitchenette and laundry facilities. Unlike a traditional hotel, we do not provide daily housekeeping or infinite restocks of consumables. You have the freedom to live like a local!

What is included in my “Starter Kit”? To help you settle in, we provide a small complimentary kit including:

  • A selection of tea, coffee, and sugar.
  • Travel-sized shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.
  • Dishwashing liquid soap, a fresh dishcloth, and a small amount of laundry liquid.
  • Two rolls of toilet paper and tissues per bathroom.

What happens if I run out of these items? As our units are self-serviced, the starter kit is intended to cover your first night or two. Once these items are used, guests are responsible for purchasing their own supplies.

Where is the nearest grocery store? Foodworks is located just a 2-minute drive from the resort. They stock a full range of groceries, toiletries, and household essentials. Our Local Butcher and Local Fruit and Veg are in Dunwich (as you get off the boat). There are a number of places to get your fresh seafood on the island including Perry’ Seafood, Starkey’s on Tramican, Karl’s Place and The Prawn Shack.

🏡Room Layouts & Suitability

What exactly is a “Pavilion Style” Villa? Our Pavilion Villas are a premium architectural experience where the living spaces and bedrooms are housed in entirely separate buildings. These pavilions are connected by open-air, elevated decking rather than internal hallways.

Are the Pavilion Villas suitable for families with young children? While we welcome families, please be aware that the separate bedroom pavilions mean children will sometimes be sleeping in a different building than their parents. Additionally, the villas feature elevated decking. For these reasons, we generally recommend these villas for families with older children or teenagers.

Tell me about the Beach Shacks – how are they laid out? The Beach Shacks feature a cozy, vertical design. The living area is on the ground floor, and the Queen bed is located on a mezzanine (loft) level accessed via an internal staircase. They also feature a private elevated deck.

Are there any mobility restrictions? Yes. Due to the internal staircases in the Beach Shacks and the steps required to access the elevated decking in most units, our accommodation may not be suitable for guests with limited mobility. Please contact us directly to discuss the most accessible options.

🏊 Pool & Wellness

What are the pool hours? The pool is open daily from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM, except for 2 small windows early on a Monday and Friday morning for scheduled cleaning and maintenance. We aim to have the cleaning finished as quickly as possible on these days. If we note a health and safety issue with the pool, we may close it down in an unscheduled manner from time to time.

Are there pool towels available? Yes! You can hire beach/pool towels at the time of booking, or via our team at any time during your stay. We kindly ask that you do not use the white bathroom towels at the pool area.

Is the pool supervised? The pool is unsupervised. For safety, children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Strict Policy: For the safety of all guests, glass is strictly prohibited in the pool area. Please use the plastic drinkware only

Does the resort have a gym? Yes, our fitness centre is located near the pool area and is open during standard business hours by requesting a separate key.

  • Age Requirement: For safety reasons, guests must be 16 years or older to use the gym.
  • Etiquette: Please use the provided sanitizing wipes to clean equipment after use.

🗝️ Arrival & Contactless Check-In

What are the check-in and check-out times?

  • Check-in: From 3:00 PM
  • Check-out: By 10:00 AM
  • Late check-outs may be available for a fee, subject to availability.

How does Contactless Check-In work?  To get you into “holiday mode” faster, we utilise a contactless check-in system:

  1. Digital Registration: 24 hours before arrival, you will receive a link via email/SMS to complete your registration and security bond pre-authorisation if required.
  2. Key Access: On the day of arrival, once your unit is ready, we will text you your unique Access Code for the lockbox at the front of the resort, where you can pick up your keys should our office be unattended when you arrive at the resort.

What if I need help during my stay? While check-in is contactless, we aren’t invisible! Our guest services team is still available via phone and email from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM for any questions. We’ll give you those details when you get here!

🌊 The Beach & Location

How close is the beach? You are only a few sandy steps away! Our resort is located 100m from the shoreline. A dedicated beach path is accessible directly across the road leading you straight onto the sand. Cylinder Beach is our nearest patrolled beach and is only 1.4km away.

Do you provide beach gear? We have beach towels, cool cabanas and other beach items for hire at the resort!

🚙 4WD Beach Access & QYAC Permits

Many guests visit Straddie to experience our world-class beach driving. To protect the delicate coastal ecosystem and respect the cultural heritage of the Quandamooka people, specific rules apply.

Do I need a permit to drive on the beach?  Yes. If you plan to take your 4WD onto Main Beach or Flinders Beach, you must possess a valid Vehicle Access Permit (VAP).

Where do I get a Vehicle Access Permit? Permits are managed by QYAC and can be purchased in two ways:

What are the main rules?

  • Permit Display: Your permit must be clearly displayed on your windscreen at all times.
  • Road Rules Apply: The beach is a designated road. Standard Queensland road rules apply, including speed limits, seatbelts, and random breath testing.
  • Tide Awareness: No driving is allowed 2 hours either side of high tide. Driving at high tide is dangerous for you and damaging to the dunes.
  • Eco-Respect: Stay off the dunes and away from nesting shorebirds.

🦘 North Stradbroke Island Wildlife Guidelines

Our resort is privileged to share this island with an incredible array of native animals. To ensure their safety and yours, please follow these community guidelines:

🚫 The “Look But Don’t Touch” Rule

North Stradbroke is famous for its resident Kangaroos and Wallabies (keep an eye out for the rare Golden Stradbroke Wallaby!).

  • Do Not Feed: Feeding wildlife – even with “healthy” fruit or bread – causes nutritional deficiencies, disease, and aggressive “nuisance” behaviour. It is also illegal in protected areas.
  • Keep Your Distance: While our kangaroos are used to humans, they are wild animals. Please maintain a respectful distance (at least 2–3 metres) and never attempt to pat them.

🚗 Driving Safely (The Dawn & Dusk Rule)

Most wildlife strikes happen during low-light hours when animals are most active.

  • Avoid Driving at Night: If possible, avoid driving between dusk and dawn.
  • Slow Down: If you must drive at night, significantly reduce your speed. Kangaroos can be dazed by headlights and may hop directly into your path rather than away from it.
  • Injured Wildlife: If you hit an animal or find one injured, please call Minjerribah Wildlife Rescue or the RSPCA (1300 ANIMAL).

🐨 Spotting the Locals

  • Koalas: Usually found in the eucalyptus trees around Amity Point and the townships. Look for “grey fur balls” tucked into the forks of trees!
  • Marine Life: Head to the North Gorge Walk at Point Lookout to spot dolphins, sea turtles, and manta rays year-round.
  • Whale Watching: From June to October, you can see Humpback Whales migrating just off the coast. The headland at Point Lookout is one of the best land-based whale-watching spots in the world.

🔌 Parking & EV Charging

Is there on-site parking? Yes, each unit has one designated parking space.

Is there EV (Electric Vehicle) charging available? Please note that our Beach Shacks are not equipped with EV charging facilities. For fire safety and to protect the resort’s electrical infrastructure, the use of standard domestic power outlets to charge vehicles is strictly prohibited.

Where do I park? Each unit has one dedicated, numbered parking space. If you are travelling with multiple vehicles (including boats and jet skis), please contact us in advance for overflow parking options.

🧹Housekeeping & Maintenance

Will my room be cleaned during my stay? To respect your privacy and independence, we do not provide daily housekeeping. For stays longer than 7 days, a mid-stay “refresh” (linen change) can be arranged for an additional fee.

What should I do with my rubbish? To keep our resort pristine and prevent local wildlife from becoming a ‘nuisance’, please dispose of your rubbish at the end of your stay at the designated collection points noted on your resort map.
